As we reach the height of summer, the Classic Yacht Challenge Series (CYCS) is in full swing, with plenty more exciting events on the horizon! This series brings together sailors and showcases the beauty and skill of classic yacht racing. Here’s an update on the season so far:

  • High Participation: Since June, 65 classic boats have competed in four CYCS events, spanning Newport, Martha's Vineyard, and Maine. The enthusiasm and dedication of the sailors, volunteers, and partners have made each race a spectacular event.
  • Qualified Contenders: Only Black Watch and Marilee have qualified for the overall series so far, having competed in at least five individual races across three events in two districts.
  • Leading the Pack: Currently, Ken Colburn's NY40, Marilee, is leading the Black Watch Syndicate as we head into this weekend’s marathon of point-to-point races, including the Castine Classic Yacht Regatta, Camden to Brooklin Feeder Race, and the iconic Eggemoggin Reach Regatta.
  • District Awards: To be eligible for district awards, teams must compete in three races across at least two events within their home district. In Maine, six boats have qualified for the district awards: Black Watch, Isobel, Gleam, Bijou II, Spirit, and Polly. Their impressive performances have set a high standard for the competition, and we anticipate more qualifiers as the season progresses. Standings for Massachusetts and Southern New England districts will be available in a few weeks.
  • Welcome to the Series: The Vineyard Cup joined the CYCS this year, but unfortunately, weather conditions did not cooperate. Two days of racing were affected by little wind and stormy weather, leading to several postponements and abandonments. Despite this, the party was a success, and sailors appreciated the Race Committee’s efforts to get racing underway.
  • Upcoming Events: With 11 events still to go, anticipation is high for the upcoming races. It’s not too late to join the late summer regattas! Check out our full calendar!

We are grateful for the continued support and participation of all our sailors, sponsors, and fans. Your passion and dedication make the Classic Yacht Challenge Series a truly remarkable event. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as we sail towards the grand finale!
